Fun Fur Collection
This collection showcases Madeleine’s incredible imagination, her love of animals and a touch of whimsical. She had so much fun bringing these unique pieces to life!
Trees
Although her favourite place was in her studio creating, the source of her inspiration often came from being out in nature. Whether the trees were birch, popular or evergreens, she strived to capture the play of light and shadow on her subjects. The source of her inspiration for many of her tree pieces came from daily walks outside with her dogs.
Canadian Prairies Collection
Prairie skies, especially those with elevators, were one of Madeleine’s favourite subjects. She grew up and felt most at home on the prairies. She took hundreds of photographs of various elevators and old farmsteads from across Alberta and western Saskatchewan which inspired her work. Madeleine felt grain elevators represented sentinels standing watch over the prairie communities.
Gardens & Flowers
Madeleine loved the colour, she felt energized in nature and was inspired by the beauty of flowers and gardens. One of her ‘happy places’ was sitting in her friend Val’s garden which served to inspire many of her flower pictures.
Canadiana Collection
Although the prairies were home, Madeleine travelled across Canada and took inspiration from everywhere she visited. She created works that showcased the liveliness of the East Coast, the beauty and strength of the rocky mountains, and the serenity of the West Coast.
Mexican Memories Collection
Madeline absolutely loved the people, culture and colours of Mexico. She and her husband wintered in Mexico for many years exploring many cities and towns. Madeleine was moved by the gracious, welcoming and hard-working spirit of the people they met. She spent a couple weeks, one winter creating a mural for a restaurant in Troncones. Her Mexican Collection was created using fabric and paint to add a more vibrant texture and feel.
Cats Collection
Madeleine so enjoyed her dogs and would have considered herself a definite ‘dog person’, but she appreciated how different cats were from her dogs. Occasionally a family member’s cat inspired a piece of work in her cat series.
Medieval Collection
This series arose out of Madeleine’s interest in medieval European history. She used various fabrics and paint to create these incredibly unique pieces. The fabric brings a richness to the color and texture of the subjects.
